Printing Greeting Cards

Author: Michael Russell

People buy cards all the time. When you go to a store you may spend 5 to 20 minutes picking out a good card. You have to read the cards to find the one that sounds right to you. Then if you don't happen to find the card that you want, you have to go to another store and search.

Why not make your cards and have the cards say exactly what you want them to say?

To start you are going to need a good ink jet printer. The printer will have to have plenty of ink in the ink cart. If you are running out of ink you will notice that the color will seem faded. A fresh ink cart will make your card look better. You will need some good paper, typing paper is very thin and will not work. Printer paper is a bit thicker and will work ok. Its best to see if you can find card paper.

You will need some card making software and you can find this in the software department of your computer store. The less you pay, the fewer cards you can make, so if you plan on making lots of cards, go on and get the deluxe edition.

Once you load the software you should be asked what kind of card you would like to make. Once you choose the kind of card you like, you need pick the style, or the way it folds. You should then see template cards with pictures and words already on them. You can change the words on them or keep it the same. If you decide to change the words, try not to replace them with more words than were there in the first place. When you make you card, preview it, if it has a print preview option. There should also be option to show you to fold the card once you print it out. If you plan on sending the same kind of card to many people, you need a color copy machine.

If you do have a copy machine, you will have to use the printer to print copies. You will then run of your ink fast, so you will need a ink cart kit that comes with a bottle of refill ink. When you run of ink you can just refill the cart yourself.

When you send the cards out to your friends, they are sure to ask you where you got them. When you tell them, you won't be the only person in town making cards like this.

You can also make you own cards from scratch. You can use a card making program, but you will have to find your own images. You can do this by buying software that contains image files for you to use or you can use your own digital photographs.

If the images you use are not copyrighted you can sell the cards you make, customising them as your customers request. Making cards can be a great hobby or business.
