Traditionally, we honor our mothers in May. Mothers Day is a day when our mom does not have to arrange and prepare meals, but stays on the receiving end. Mother's Day is the perfect day to express our gratitude towards our mother. We can never come out of the debts of love which we owe to her. One way we can thank her for everything she has done for us is by giving her beautiful flowers emanating lots of fragrance. This fragrance is just not the fragrance of the flower, but also of our warmth and love for her. Christian flower symbolism was applied to Mary by the church fathers and today in the Christmas carol, 'Lo, How a Rose 'ere Blooming', this flower symbolism is expressed as an extension of Isaiah's prophecy of the virgin mother of the Messiah as the Blossoming Rod of Jesse. There are many reasons why we should give flowers to our mother on Mothers Day. There are many stories, myths and tales that are told about why so many flowers are appropriate on this day. The red and beautiful Impatiens has been named Mother Love because of its constancy of blooms during the entire period from spring to frost, which reminds us of the constancy of mother Mary's love for her divine son and all children in her spiritual kingdom. When we see the tear-like buds of larkspur, we bring together our feelings with those of Mary as she cried at the foot of the cross of her crucified divine son. Gifting flowers to your mother on Mothers Day must be everyone's duty, as this is just not a modern custom but it also transports us to our ancient roots. |
