Acne : A Major Concern Of The Growing Generation

The term Acne, generally refers to the open pores which lead to the appearance of white or black heads, occurrence of pimples which appears over ones face, chest, shoulders, face, neck etc. It is virtually a problem which affects the younger generation, mostly the teenagers. It is also to be noted here that acne problem is not an exception for the teenagers only as it may also affect the adults to a certain extent.

Acne can be referred to as an inflammatory and a provocative skin disease which is usually caused by the hair follicle. Acne vulgaris is considered as one of the most common from of acne. This type of acne generally occurs when excess oil is secreted from the sebaceous glands on account of which the hair follicles get blocked.

Causes for the problem of acne are many and varied. There are in fact several factors which are associated with the causation of acne. Teenagers experiences acne with the sudden change in their age which leads them to step into the stage of puberty. Moreover, acne is virtually found to be prevalent in the girls at the stage of puberty when they experience menstrual cycles. Thus it can be very well estimated that hormonal changes and hormonal activities is a major cause of acne. Stress, depression, tensions, hyperactivity, insomnia also causes acne. Certain sorts of medication like androgens, lithium, chlorides, halogens and immense use of steroids containing anabolic acids may lead to the formation of acne in ones skin.

Besides these various causes of acne, however there are certain misconceptions or myths which are related to the causation of acne. Some of the misconceptions are diet, which contains high percentage of sugar, chocolate, seafood, milk, iodine. Another myth which is related to the formation of acne is hygiene. It should be made clear in this aspect that dirt is not a cause of acne. One more misconception can be estimated here is that of sex. Sex either in the form of masturbation or in the form of celibacy is not a cause of acne.

Acne when it becomes severe may leave certain marks or scars in the skin which cannot be removed easily but it needs specific treatments for its removal. But virtually acne cases are treated and resolved to a great extent. It is however considered necessary to consult a dermatologist for overcoming acne. The treatment which is meted out to one acne patient may not be the same for another acne patient and it may work well in one than in the other. So what is generally required is patience as treatments dont work wonders instantly but it takes time.
