| Do you get a lot of spam e-mail? I certainly do. One topic that comes up time and again is how to sell your timeshare property. One of the promises of timeshare ownership is that you are purchasing an appreciating asset. Evidently, the reality is that there are always new timeshares being built, so "used" timeshares often go for a fraction of their purchase price. Ouch. Years ago my parents had a vacation timeshare at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, New Hampshire. They purchased an off-season week, neither in the winter since they weren't skiers nor in the summer since they didn't play tennis. It was a lovely one-bedroom unit in a beautiful setting, but they hardly ever used it. In fact, I got to use their vacation week once, which is why I know as much as I do about it. They paid somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000 for it, and they had an annual maintenance fee somewhere between $600 and $800. They were rarely able to trade their week for a week at another property, because the demand for off-season timeshares in New Hampshire is quite low. Ultimately my dad sold it, and I'm sure he lost money on the transaction. My vicarious experience of timeshare ownership is the main reason why I jumpedat a membership in Global Resorts Network. Global Resorts Network, or GRNfor short, is a worldwide network of luxury timeshare properties. A lifetime (Platinum) membership costs a mere $2,995, and there are no annual maintenance fees. Instead of the latter, you simply pay any time you use a timeshare. Ah,you might be thinking, there's the catch.Yes, it would be a catch except for the extremely discounted price you pay. Featured weeks go for as little as $298 ... for the week, taxes included! Rarely do weeks cost more than $699, and only at the most sought-after properties. In fact, I've never seen a week cost more than $799. Compare these prices with what you can find on Expedia, Orbitz, or Travelocity, and the savings are anywhere from 50% to a whopping 90%. I took a vacation earlier this year at the Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. I had a gorgeous one-bedroom condo in the middle of a pristine golf course. The price I paid was about 60% off what was available on the travel sites. While I was there I saw many couples being taken on a tour of the property, presumably to convince them of the merits of timeshare ownership. It was all I could do to keep from screaming,"Don't do it! Talk to me first about Global Resorts Network!" So if you are thinking of purchasing a vacation timeshare, I encourage you to do your due diligence and consider a Platinum membership in Global Resorts Network instead. You won't be sorry.
