Mobile phones are being used quite extensively by students in the UK. College and school going kids are spending quite a lot of their money and resources on their mobile phone handsets. A research was carried out in the UK sometime back to study the pattern of mobile phone usage among school and college going kids. According to the results of the investigation, around 93 per cent of the students in the UK owned a mobile phone. They were also spending considerable amounts on their mobile calls, text messages, the download of mobile games and other kinds of mobile phone services. It was found that young people were aware of the leading names in the mobile telecommunications domain. They were using the services of network operators such as Orange and were purchasing the latest handsets from leading handset manufacturers such as Nokia. As a matter of fact, Nokia, with a market share of 64 per cent, was found to be their first choice in mobile phone handsets. Based on the results of the survey, it can be said that the young people in the UK, have discovered a new way to communicate with their peers and friends. They are now sending text messages and chatting through their mobiles. They are also using the sophisticated features of the latest handsets for their entertainment as well as for accessing information from the Internet. |
